Software localization

The localisation of software, websites or e-commerce pages is a path fraught with trials and tribulations - and quite a few have come unstuck along the way... The localization of software applications is more complex than a standard translation. Additional parameters need to be considered, as well:

  • Have the specific style and usage rules of the target country (time, addresses, greetings, examples, currencies...) been taken into account?
  • Do the shortcuts work properly in the translated version?
  • Are translations too long for the dialog boxes?
  • Are terms consistent throughout menus, reports and online help?

Every error, every delay means that your product will get out onto the market later, and that you will lose potential sales. Therefore, it’s all the more important to work with a partner who really understands what he’s talking about. So who could be better than a translation company which is also a software developer (for example in visual C++ or C#)?

The testing of localised software is regarded as a special quality assurance procedure- and D.O.G. can test software performance on local operating systems. Together we can define which test procedures are possible and which ones shall be performed for each specific case: installation tests, linguistic tests, functionality tests, and so on. Our offer includes test scripts as well as additional tests according to your specifications.

Translation of machine software

Translating machinery software is a special form of software localization: not all texts need to be translated, translated files must be coded correctly, and translations must not exceed the space limits of the display area.

The maximum text length is stated in characters or pixels depending on the system. D.O.G. has programmed tools which check the length of the translation to ensure that the translations supplied will show correctly on the display.
