D.O.G. GmbH is certified according to the translation standard ISO 17100 and was successfully audited for the third time in summer 2019. The audit was carried out without objections. All translations are checked by revisers of D.O.G. GmbH in accordance with the dual-control principle.
Requirements of the standard
The current version of the standard is EN ISO 17100:2015. It replaces the EN 15038 standard to which we had previously been certified for many years. The standard describes the individual phases of the translation process from project preparation to delivery of the finished translation and sets requirements regarding the qualifications of the individual participants. It also defines the name of the individual roles.
The standard thus distinguishes between editing and proofreading. Editing is done by a reviser, who checks the target language content against the source language content. Proofreading refers to target language content that has already been edited.
Qualification of D.O.G. employees
The standard specifies the requirements for the qualification of the employees involved in the process:
- The technical translator must be a trained translator with an appropriate degree or have a university degree plus two years' professional experience as a translator or five years' professional experience as a translator.
- The reviser must be able to demonstrate linguistic, cultural and subject area competence.
- The technical reviser must be able to demonstrate expertise in a specific field and have relevant qualifications or experience.
- The project manager must be competent in organizing and supporting the translation process.
It is the responsibility of the translation service provider to ensure that the project managers and reviser are continuously trained.
We adhere to the requirements of the ISO 17100 standard and have proved in regular audits that our resources and employees have the necessary qualifications.
Handling of translation projects
The handling of translation projects is described in detail in the standard. From the entry of the order to the prescribed analysis of the source-language content and project post-processing, the standard covers all the important steps. The fact that the auditor raised no objections during the last certification audit, in which projects and data were randomly reviewed and individual employees interviewed, serves as further confirmation of the quality we offer you.
The D.O.G. quality manual
We completed the first version of our internal quality manual in 2001. It already contained detailed work instructions and forms that help us to ensure the quality of our services. Meanwhile, our manual comprises almost 200 pages and helps colleagues from various fields such as resource management, quality assurance of translations or terminology work to provide reliable services at the highest level.
